While I still wish I could hard plumb my Opal
into my water supply at the house, this is a great alternative and addition to your Opal ice maker!!
Not sure what the negative reviews about leaks are about, but honestly, it’s literally idiot proof. You take the tank off, unscrew the cap, fill the tank, flip it upside down, and put it back on the base. There is a one way valve, so it’s not like you’re flipping a water cooler jug over, the water won’t go everywhere.
It matches the Opal perfectly, the tank is sized perfect enough that I can fit it into my sink and fill it using my Instant hot/cold tap which gives me filtered water, and it’s way easier than having to pull the ice tray all the way out, sticking a pitcher of water into the Opal and filling it a few times a week.
Installation literally took 30 seconds. It took longer for me to open the Amazon shipping box, un-box the tank, and pull my Opal far enough out from under the cabinet to reach the hose than it did to actually connect it.

This item is well worth it! Prior to having this, I was filling the ice maker with water about once a day, and now I only fill it once or twice a week. It was kind of a pain to fill the ice maker because you would have to take the ice tray out and make sure it didn’t drip everywhere when filling, but with the water tank, it is super easy. It really isn’t a big deal that it needs to be flipped over to put it back on the stand, the water doesn’t leak out, and because of this feature, you don’t need an extra container to fill it with, you just put the tank directly under the faucet. It’s probably better for the ice maker to have its water tank full at all times so it’s not trying to make ice from an empty tank, which may cause breakdown. I’m wondering if this is the problem some people who gave it poor reviews had. My friend actually bought one first, and she had no problems with it either. My husband was hesistant because of some of the poor reviews, but it has proven to be a great product for us. The water tank can be mounted on either side of the ice maker, which is a great feature. This whole unit along with the water tank is at the top of my best purchases ever list. I just love it!

This works exactly as advertised, so that’s the reason for the 5 stars. It helps keep the Opal filled with water and operating well.
The thing that I dislike is that this is, in my opinion, an absolutely necessary addition to the Opal, instead of being an optional convenience. Without the reservoir, it was incredibly easy to have the main water area run dry by just using a few scoops of ice without refilling the water. This has a side effect of the Opal not really being able to effectively keep the ice frozen (because it has to wait for a lot of ice to melt before it can recycle it as frozen again), as well as allowing the Opal to make horrendous noise. With the reservoir that doesn’t happen. I dislike being made to feel like I *had* to buy an accessory to make something work correctly.

This addition was exactly what the unit needed. Easy to refill and it takes quite a long time to go through the water. I don’t fill it more than once a week.

Yes, it is pretty expensive for what amounts to just being a plastic jug. However, if you’re buying this it’s because you also own a $500+ ice maker because you like “good ice”– so we pretty much have to surrender the moral high ground when it comes to complaining about ‘value’ and ‘price’. 🙂
For me, this really makes the Opal so much nicer to use! The Opal Side Tank is *much* larger than the built-in tank on the main unit and it is additional to the existing capacity, so finally I’m not seeing the ‘low water’ blue ring ALL THE TIME (and probably saving a lot of wear-and-tear on the water pump running on a dry reservoir). Since the side tank is clear it’s immediately obvious at a glance as to whether you need to add water which is much better than pulling the bin and trying to see inside the black interior of the Opal Ice Maker itself. Lastly, as an added bonus, the side tank eliminates the spill-prone task of (awkwardly) trying to pour water from a large container in to the Opal base to refill it.
All in all, it’s a ‘luxury’ priced add-on to a ‘luxury’ priced ice-maker and is well worth the money if you use a lot of ice and hate the frequent refill schedule on the stock Opal Ice Maker.

Not sure why people keep complaining about the price, but still decided to purchase and rate the product badly. It does what it’s supposed to do simple as that.

I am in love with the Opal nugget ice machine I received as a 30th birthday gift from my thoughtful partner last year. It’s something that I use literally every day but would have never bought for myself! Nugget ice is the best by far. However, we used to joke that Opal was a thirsty girl, as I was constantly having to refill the base due to our frequent household ice consumption. I found this and it has been a tremendous time-saver! I now only refill Opal about once a week, and this is really easy to take off its base and refill. I had no problems hooking it up and it never leaks. If you are splurging on an Opal ice maker, spend a little extra for this water tank: I am very glad I purchased!

I don’t know if the opal is really smart or really dumb for not including this from the factory. This is a MUST have accessory for your opal. Tank does not leak and/or make a mess.
My only complaint would be for them to have included extra O rings for the cap, it doesn’t seem to fit snug in the cap and potentially end up getting lost. Maybe that is why a lot of customers complain about theirs leaking, they might have dropped or lost the O ring seal without noticing.

I suggest anyone who has an opal nugget ice maker get this side tank! When I would fill up the regular tank with water it needed to be refilled again by the next day if not sooner but by adding this tank it is at least 5 days before I need to refill it again; sometimes more. At first I was skeptical about the tank being sturdy or secure with the magnet but I noticed that when water is inside the tank it increases the sturdiness and attaches even better to the machine.
