You pay a little more, and you get a whole lot more. At first, I was unwilling to buy a toaster with a few bells and whistles. Gimmicks, and like that. But I was tired of buying one every few years. We had outstanding luck with other KitchenAide small appliances, so took a flyer on this one. This is without question the best, most functional toaster we’ve ever had, and I’m old, so we’ve had a lot. Does what it’s supposed to do with aplomb, smoothness, and precision. Looks low key, but elegant and tasteful, like an older Mercedes. Toast is perfect and even, every time, time after time. The push button release is my favorite feature. I didn’t know I needed it. Buy one, you won’t regret it.

Our 11 year old Cuisinart failed and our search for a replacement lead to this guy. We thought about another Cuisinart but 11 years later and they still look the same and the rating haven’t improved. Where is the continuous quality improvement? We’ve only had this a short while and my wife is already in love with it. Honestly, it’s a toaster. It just needed it to toast consistently and do it reliably for a few decades. Didn’t need anything big. Just wanted simple and reliable. No Alexa enable toaster for us. Don’t laugh, saw they have an Amazon Basics Alexa enabled microwave. Any way, we are a week in and the bagels and English muffins are still coming out perfect.

Sure, there are lots of cheaper toasters out there. But you get what you pay for. I’m tired of fooling around with cheap tools. Now I just go with the best brand of small appliances on planet Earth: KitchenAid. Never have a problem with them.

My favourite feature of this toaster is the lever on the right side. It allows you to “peak” at the toast’s color during the toasting cycle without stopping the cycle. So you can lift up the lever to see the bread to see how dark it has gotten without stopping and having to restart the cycle. I also like that is mostly all red. Many other versions I saw were mostly stainless with a red cover. This is all red with chrome accents. This is much better at disguising finger prints. The red matches other red items in my kitchen too. The slots are also pretty wide to allow for thicker breads. Another nice features it the cord. While it does not auto retract, it wraps itself neatly around the base so only the amount needed to reach the plug is out. There are clips to hold the excess in place flat under the toaster’s base.
