This has been a great addition to my baking pantry. As a grandmother to 5 little boys, I have been baking cookies a lot; many recipes call for “shortening” , which I have always avoided because it is hydrogenated and has ingredients I don’t like. I saw Nutiva on Milkwood and it seemed so simple . I will use it from now on for all my baking needs.

I have been using this shortening ever since I went Paleo many years ago. I make all of my baked goods with it and one would never know the difference between it and the other horrible shortenings out there on the market. My biscuits are fluffy, and my muffins are delicious. Interpret that as you wish.

I got this to use as an alternative to regular shortening. I have used this for biscuits, cookies and pie crusts. I love that there is no coconut taste to it so it doesn’t alter the taste of my baked goods. My biscuits always turn out really fluffy and I’ve never had any complaints about the cookies I’ve made using this. I’d say that pie crust doesn’t turn out super flaky with this, but there’s still some flakiness to it and it’s not like cardboard. My only complaint is that I wish the container was bigger!

Weird use, but I actually used this as a moiturizing skin product/ night cream, after washing my face normally, and it cleared up 99% of the adult acne I’ve had for 15+ years. ❤️I don’t have words to express how much this has changed my life. This is hands down the best thing I’ve ever used for my skin.(Was recommended to me by amazon after I purchased coconut oil)

Ingredients: *Organic Palm Fruit Oil, *Organic Unrefined Red Palm Oil, Organic Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil*Fair Trade Certified by IMO 90% Fair for life ingredientsThis is by far, the best shortening I have found!! I LOVE it for my pie crusts! I weigh out (or measure) how much I am going to use, then put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes BEFORE I put it in the recipe. My crusts come out so flaky!!! I also have been using it in cookies. The flavor of the crusts and cookies are great too. This doesn’t overpower anything, very neutral, but seems to add just a hint of lusciousness. Somehow the mix of oils just works so well, its almost buttery. It IS the consistency of a soft butter. The palm oil is for creating flaky baked goods, the coconut oil provides the added health benefits of lauric acid. This shortening is vegan and contains no dairy, soy or canola! It is organic, non-GMO and Fair Trade certified. The golden color reveals the presence of antioxidant vitamins A & E naturally found in red palm oil.No hexane, dairy, soy or canolaNon-hydrogenated (Zero Trans fats!)No cholesterolNon-BPA container

I don’t bake with this much, but we use it exclusively on all of our pride and joy cast iron cookware and it has created the most beautifully seasoned finish that nothing sticks to. If you look at the ingredients in most of the cast iron treatments (even Crisco) you would cringe. I don’t want to put that kind of stuff in my body. Nutiva shortening is 100% organic with pure (pronounceable) ingredients that I can feel good about and my cast iron pans are living proof.

I’ve been purchasing NUTIVA shortening for a couple years now. It tastes great. I use it for EVERYTHING, in cooking, baking, and spreading. It’s easy on the stomach.
Although it doesn’t have to be refrigerated, I do it anyway. It also solidifies the shortening because it is creamy. A good trick in using less.
Recently I’ve noticed the price soar. Willingly they will lower it soon. Because it is a great substitute for butter!

I mainly bought this to fry with and that’s what I’ve been doing. It frys great and doesn’t scorch. The smell has a faint coconut smell and when you cook with it you cannot taste it, which is great because I don’t like a coconut taste on certain fried food. The texture is slightly crumbly and when you scoop it out be careful because it can get everywhere. My body feels good even after eating fried foods, I don’t feel heavy and sluggish after eating and that’s a great plus.

I tried this shortening for the first time in my chicken pot pie crust recipe which calls for butter also. It was so amazing!!! I’ll be using it every time a recipe calls for shortening from now on.

Great alternative to traditional shortening but would like a larger container. Otherwise the flavor is very neutral and gives pie crust a nice golden color and flakey texture. It was also a great seasoning oil for my cast iron pots.

I don’t like to use hydrogenated shortening or lard so this is a great solution. I like the smaller size as I don’t use shortening often. This shortening makes light and flakey pie crusts that the whole family enjoyed.
Baking is my passion –
I use coconut oil quite often in my cooking and was looking for a product a bit closer to “vegetable shortening” for some recipes I wanted to try in which straight coconut oil was not suitable. Not disappointed! This is a great product for those recipes you would normally use a solid shortening for. I have learned to substitute olive oil for most of my baking, but there are just some items that require shortening. Give this product a try if you are trying to be nutritionally aware of the benefits of this type of product. Highly recommend.

I love this. We get it on Market my daughter had a dairy allergy for years when she was a little bit younger and I got so accustomed to cooking with this and baking with this that I still use it and the kids still prefer it even though she has outgrown Her allergy. Works great in baked goods works great even in frosting!
