Essential Burger Press Buying Considerations

Before you head out buying burger press, let’s take a moment to consider some of the factors you may want to consider. It is important to realize that there are many different styles and factors involved.

We’ve compiled this buyer’s guide to help you with some information that might come in handy as you consider your burger press options.

Things To Consider Before Buying Burger Press

Size

Different burger presses make different sized patties. If you’re looking for something that will make a specific size of burger, check out the diameters. Although most of them can accommodate a standard burger, it does not mean they are all created equally so pay attention.

Materials

You will also need to think about the materials used for burger presses. You will have a wide variety of options, and they tend to all work well together.

The real trick, however, lies here. Ideally, your burger press should be nonstick.

Whether you choose aluminum or a non-stick plastic material, look for non-stick capabilities. You will have an easier time creating your burgers, and you will have less mess to clean up.

As you make more of them, some of them stick more because the material matters.

What Type of Burger?

Here’s another thought for you to consider. There are some things that might be better made with a press designed for that purpose rather than a simple press. If you like to make stuffed burgers, you should consider buying a press that is designed for this purpose.

Design Concept

Next, you should consider the overall design of the burger press. Some presses can even be used to grill your burgers, while others are specifically designed for pressing patties.

Easy-to-use software is one thing that we recommend looking for. It only makes your pressing take longer overall if it’s a complicated contraption.

Additionally, it should be comfortable to use. Are you able to comfortably grasp the handle of the press and maintain control of it without your hands cramping up? There are a few minor things you can do to make the burger press work for you, but the more in your favor your burger press is, the better off you will be when you use it!

Burger Consistency

If you use a burger press, it’s nothing more frustrating than getting an uneven, thicker burger on one side. Although most presses are designed to reduce this issue, there are some that don’t.

The best burger presses will produce a uniform patty that is largely consistent throughout the entire burger. Even if it isn’t perfect every single time, at least one side will not be twice as thick as the other.

Durability

Last but not least, you want to make sure that your burger press will last. Plastic materials used in some presses can easily crack or wear down. In general, it’s not a big deal if you’re just making a few patties here and there, but if you use your press regularly or make a lot of patties at once, you’ll want something durable.

Generally, aluminum burger presses are the most durable. You can also find some solid plastic ones as well, just make sure you know whether it is a heavy-duty and durable material or not. If you don’t use it that often and just want to have it on hand, this may not be as important to consider.

How to Use a Burger Press

Burger presses are pretty simple to use. It’s mostly self-explanatory, but understanding how some presses work differently when they have extra pieces can be a challenge.

Most of the time, you will measure out your meat, place it in the press, and then press it. Voila! The end result is a glorious burger.

Follow these simple steps:

  • Measure out your meat as desired or needed
  • Place the ball of meat into the press
  • Operate the press to smash the meat into a patty
  • Some presses might have some additional instructions or tips, so be sure to check out the details for your press specifically as well.

If your press doesn’t automatically dimple your burger for you, you may want to consider adding a small dimple in the meat yourself. This helps the burger not to shrink as much during cooking.

If you are making stuffed burgers, it can be a little more complicated than that because you will have to stuff the centers and go through a multi-step process.
