When buying ice cream scoop, you better but the best one. With the ice cream scoop, freshly frozen ice cream can be scooped into a form that can be molded into a ball. The ice cream can then be frozen again and again. There are an endless number of great treats you can make with different flavors. In addition, the treats contain a tremendous amount of calories. The following is a list of the most popular ice cream scoops.

Things To Consider Before Buying Ice Cream Scoop

Scoop Design

There are two parts to an ice cream scoop: the handle and the scoop at the top. Scoop design varies between curved and portion scoops. Curved scoops scrape through ice cream, curling it into a ball; portion scoops pack the cream into an ice cream ball. Some parts of the scoop are narrowed so that hard ice cream will be easier to slice.

A portion scoop, also called a disher, generally has some sort of mechanical release because it is packed with ice cream. Typically, mechanical releases are curved and narrow bands that run inside the scoop making it easy to release the ice cream. Additionally, some scoops have a small lever that can be pushed to eject ice cream from the portioner.

Because there are no parts which can clog up with repeated use, single piece ice cream scoops are usually favored by ice cream shops, even though they do not have a mechanical release. Heat can then be used to loosen the ice cream, either by dipping the scoop in warm water as many ice cream shops do, or by conduction through the handle to the scoop.

Handle Design

The scoop itself is the most important part of an ice cream scoop, but the handle also varies. It is common to make a basic one-piece scoop from the same material as the bowl of the scoop. Some may have a rubber coating for comfort or an ergonomic grip. The heat transfer cannot occur if the scoop is coated for comfort. Yet, a scoop with heating liquid could prevent the ice cream from melting.

It is also possible that the handle is where the release is on mechanical scoops. A release lever is typically operated with the thumb or, in some models, by squeezing the handle. They are typically designed to be done one-handed.

Material

The handle of most ice cream scoops is made of rubber or plastic, either coated or attached separately, and the metal or steel is usually aluminum or stainless steel. Stainless steel and aluminum scoops are both capable of cutting through hard ice cream and offer similar benefits. It is not recommended to use plastic scoops: they do not last as long nor cut through ice cream as well as a metal scoop or bowl.

How Much is a Typical Scoop of Ice Cream?

A scoop of ice cream is usually 1/2 cup, but it depends on who does the scooping, what their methods are, and what size scoop they use. Ice cream can easily be shaped into a 1-cup ball with a half-cup scoop and a 1/2-cup bowl.

What is The Best Way to Scoop Ice Cream?

It is important to select the right scoop for scooping. In the case of a round scoop, it should be used at an angle, scooping in an s-shape in the tub and then following around the outside of the tub to even the top of the tub. In general, the scoops are pushed into the ice cream and across its surface.

Dipping the scoop into hot water can help get the scoop through hard ice cream, but it can also leave a bit of water behind in the ice cream tub where it will turn into ice. It may be better to leave the ice cream out of the freezer for a few minutes to let it soften enough to be easy to scoop.
