The roasted and ground seeds of the African tropical evergreen coffee plant…

are used to make coffee. Coffee is one of the world’s three most popular beverages (together with water and tea), as well as one of the most lucrative commodities on the planet. Though coffee may be used to make an endless number of beverages, its popularity stems mostly from the stimulating effect of caffeine, an alkaloid present in coffee. Meanwhile, coffee drink names may be difficult to remember, so we decided to build an alphabetical list of the coffee beverages you could encounter.

Coffea arabica and C. canephora, two kinds of coffee plant, supply nearly all of the world’s consumption. Arabica is said to be a softer, more flavorful, more fragrant brew than Robusta, the most common type of C. canephora. The flatter and more-elongated Arabica bean is more common than Robusta but more fragile and susceptible to pests, necessitating a cold subtropical environment; it must grow at higher elevations (2,000–6,500 feet [600–2,000 meters]) and demands a lot of moisture, sun, and shade. Arabica coffee is mostly grown in Latin America, Eastern Africa, Asia, and Arabia.

As the name implies, the rounder, more convex Robusta bean is heartier and can grow at lower elevations (from sea level to 2,000 feet). Robusta coffee is less expensive to produce, has double the caffeine level of Arabica, and is commonly used in low-cost commercial coffee brands. Robusta coffee is grown extensively in Western and Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and Brazil. So, here’s a rundown of the most popular coffee beverages!

5 Types of Coffee Beverages

A shot of espresso is made with an espresso machine by pushing very hot water under high pressure through a coffee tablet made of finely powdered tamped down coffee.

This is also known as “pulling a shot.” The entire extraction process takes around 20-30 seconds, yielding approximately 30 ml of syrupy beverage or espresso. As a consequence, we have a thick concentration with a Crema (creamy froth) on top. 1-1.5 oz. normal volume (25-35ml.)

Ristretto

Ristretto means “short” in Italian, and it uses the same quantity of coffee grounds as espresso but just half the amount of water. As a result, the final product is even more concentrated coffee than espresso. Ristretto is a shorter or constrained form of espresso with a somewhat sweeter flavor and less bitterness.

Doppio

Doppio means “double” in Italian. As a result, Doppio is a double shot of espresso, or two shots of espresso in one cup. Doppio is made in the same way as espresso: hot water is poured through a portafilter with a double spout into a single cup.
