How to Tighten a Single Handle Moen Kitchen Faucet?

After a lot of usage, this kind of problem may occur and it’s normal. Don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t work right away. It can be fixed quickly without calling a plumber, so don’t worry. It’s really a DIY project that you can save some extra money on.

Remove the plastic cap first. Next, take an Allen wrench (or a hexagonal wrench) and insert it into the corresponding hole, and unscrew it in a counterclockwise manner. Now, unscrew the lid of the container or cartridge that has the collar covering it. Remove the collar and the valve will be tightened with a brass ring

You can tighten the brass ring by using any suitable tool or you could use a knife or any lever counterclockwise. But don’t be so tight that you hurt yourself. And don’t be too loose either. Set the middle just right.

Equipment / Materials You Need

  • Allen Wrench Or Hex Wrench.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Adjustable Wrench or Pliers.

Step 1 : Remove The Plastic Cap

Your first and foremost job is to off the valves (both hot and cold water) so that there is no unwanted water and then remove the plastic cap or plug that is situated just below or above the faucet handle. You can remove with any pry tool or screwdriver, just take the tool to pop that off. Then you must open up the valve stem and remove it from the wall.

I’ve had this problem on my house for a while now as well. The plumber was able to find where the leak was coming in and he says its not leaking anymore after he fixed it. He said they did test all of the pipes under the sink before he started working and everything passed. I guess we will see if the problem comes back.

Step 2 : Remove The Handle and Collar

After removing the plastic cap, take an Allen wrench or hex wrench and put it inside the hole and unscrew it in a counterclockwise direction to open the handle. The faucet handle should easily come out.

Now you have to remove the collar that is covering the valve inside. Just turn the collar in the counterclockwise direction with your hand and it should easily come out.If it’s too tight, then you can take the help of an adjustable wrench or plier to make it lose.

But keep in mind don’t apply too much pressure otherwise you may scratch it or even break it up. To protect it, you can cover it with a cloth or rubber band and then use the wrench to remove it.

Step 3 : Tighten The Ring to Make The Faucet Handle Tight

Finally, after removing the collar, you will notice a valve is held tight by a ring (usually brass but it can be any metal or plastic). You have to tighten the ring using any appropriate tool. Like you can use a knife or pry tool or whatever fits in it and try to make it tight in a clockwise direction.

But make sure don’t just make it too tight, otherwise, the faucet handle will be also tight. Try to keep it in the middle, not so tight nor loose. After that, attached all the parts accordingly back to its position and turn on the valves. That’s it. The job is done.

Conclusion

Just like any other part, faucets also need proper maintenance to make them last longer and work more efficiently. If you want to avoid such problems, you might as well save some money by buying a new one instead of repairing it. It will be better than spending so much time trying to fix something that doesn’t really need repairs.
