With a capacity of 1.3L and two metal bowl layers, the Bear electric lunch box comes with a detachable plug, pressure-sealed lid (that retains steam), and an 80ml measuring cup. The measuring cup comes in handy so I don’t have to eyeball the ingredients! I will be using this measuring cup to measure out the ingredients for the electric lunch box recipes down below.

I like the intuitive one-button design of the Bear electric lunch box. Water should be added to the bottom of the electric lunch box, trays (with food) placed, your pressure seal cover added, and the lid put on. Plug it in, push the button, and voila! Within the lunch box is a powerful steamer that will steam your food immediately. Steaming stops when the electric lunch box runs out of water, which is why it is important to measure out how much water you intend to put in with the measuring cup provided.

You can estimate 15-20 minutes of steaming from one cup of water (80ml). Now that we know the basics, let’s look at some electric lunch box recipe ideas for the office.

A Simple Electric Lunch Box Recipe for Work

Japanese Curry & Rice

Sometimes, what could be better than a steamed hot Japanese curry? With my Japanese curry, I like to sprinkle mozzarella on top for extra creaminess!

  • 1 block Japanese curry stock
  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 potato (chopped)

Recipe Instructions:

A night before you need to prepare:

  • In the upper layer, place two cups of rice washed and stacked
  • Slice off one Japanese curry block and place it on the bottom layer
  • Chop diced chicken breast, diced potatoes, and diced carrots

Right before lunchtime:

  • Rice should have two cups of water added to it
  • Add one and a half cups of water to the Japanese curry mix in the lower layer
  • Cover the pressure seal with the pressure seal cover
  • Fill the electric lunch box with two cups of water
  • Stack the layers into the electric lunch box, close the lid, and secure the latch

Haidilao Inspired Tomato Base Soup with Beef Sukiyaki & Rice

An insane craving for Haidilao inspired this electric lunch box recipe. Rather than going to a restaurant for lunch, I decided to save money by making my own adult lunch box. I also included a dipping sauce inspired by the sesame oil sauce from Haidilao.

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 30 – 40 minutes
Servings: 1

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 100g tomato hot pot soup base
  • 30-50g beef strips
  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 pieces fishcake
  • ½ cube beef soup stock
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsps sesame oil
  • A pinch of salt

Recipe Instructions:

A night before you need to prepare:

  • One cup of rice should be washed and stored in the upper layer
  • Add beef strips, tomato hot pot soup base, fishcakes, and beef soup stock to the lower layer
  • Using a garlic press, mince three cloves of garlic
  • Garlic should be seasoned with sesame oil and salt. The measurements can be adjusted according to your preferences
  • Place the sesame oil mixture in a small food container.

Right before lunchtime:

  • Rice should be soaked in one cup of water
  • Add three cups of water to the tomato hot pot soup base
  • Attach the pressure seal cover
  • Fill the electric lunch box with two cups of water
  • Stack the layers in the electric lunch box, close the lid, and secure the latches
  • Plug in the lunch box and press the start button. It should be ready in 30-40 minutes.

The base of this electric lunch box recipe is tomato soup hot pot, but you may substitute other Haidilao soup pastes such as mala or even chicken stock.

Korean Rice Cakes (Tteokbokki)

Lunch box recipes for adults do not have to be healthy. Cheat days are allowed too! Look to some easy and spicy Korean recipes if you want something chewy and sweet. Korean rice cakes, or Tteokbokki, are my go-to lunchbox recipe for lazy days because they require minimal preparation.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 30-40 minutes
Servings: 1

Recipe Ingredients:

  • ½ ikan bilis soup stock cube
  • 150g instant tteokbokki/rice cakes
  • 1-1 ½ tbsp gochujang
  • 2-3 pieces fishcake
  • 1 tsp sugar
  •  1 tsp soya sauce

Recipe Instructions:

A night before you need to prepare:

  • Put all the ingredients into the metal pot

Just before lunchtime:

  • cups water should be added to the mix of ingredients
  • Stir it until the gochujang is evenly distributed
  • Put the pressure seal cover on next
  • Fill the electric lunch box with two cups of water
  • The pot goes into the electric lunch box, the lid goes on and the latches are locked
  • Lastly, plug in the lunch box and press the start button. It should be ready in 30-40 minutes.

One of the most attractive aspects of this Korean ricecake recipe is that it can be adapted to any flavor you want. When I feel like treating myself, I throw in a ramen egg after it has finished cooking!
