It’s still important to learn how to clean your pour over coffee maker so that it will serve you well for years to come.

Cleaning Pour Over Coffee Maker : Drippers and Flasks

Drippers are usually made of plastic, glass, ceramic, or ceramics, so they can be washed the same way you would wash any other dish. Chemex and V60 are not dishwasher-safe, so don’t put them in there.

Do not drink coffee from a dripper that is tainted with coffee sediment or stains. It is important to remove the coffee filters as soon as possible to prevent stains.

Cleaning Pour Over Coffee Maker : Automatic

Pour over coffee makers typically have three removable parts: the water tank, the filter basket/dripper, and the flask. Cleaning and rinsing these parts after each use, or at least daily, is recommended.

Among the parts of an automatic pour-over coffee maker that you can clean are the water spout and, in some cases, the heating plate. To avoid clogging or stains, always wipe these items clean. You should also wipe the machine all over to remove coffee splashes and keep it clean. With a sponge or towel, you can use a bit of detergent, but remember to wipe clean with water.

You should not attempt to disassemble your pour over coffee maker to clean it. Always consult your machine’s instruction manual or instructions for use.

Steps for Descaling

  • Make sure to remove the water filter and any coffee filters from the brew basket before descaling.
  • Using a full carafe of the descaling solution, run the Coffee Maker through a complete brewing cycle.
  • Repeat Step 2 until the cleaning needed indicator no longer lights after the brewing cycle has been completed if the cleaning needed indicator lights after brewing.
  • Wash the Coffee Maker by running it through two brewing cycles using a full carafe of fresh, cool water each time.
  • The brew basket and carafe should be washed in hot, soapy water and rinsed with hot water.
  • Water filters should be reinstalled or replaced.
