Seasoning for Steak Tips

  • Before seasoning the steak, make sure it’s fully dry. This step is critical for getting a beautiful crust on your steak when searing it.
  • Because of the size of the salt particles, I believe Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt is the best. It helps you to season your steak properly without having to worry about it being excessively salty.
  • To get the maximum flavor out of your peppercorns, use freshly cracked pepper.
  • When you place the steak in the skillet, it should sizzle. This is a good sign that your skillet has been appropriately warmed.
  • Place the steak in the hot skillet and cook for three to four minutes before flipping it.
  • When flipping the steak, it should easily detach from the pan.
  • Allow the steak to cook for another minute or two before flipping it.
  • The steak should be deeply browned and ready to turn after three to four minutes. For medium-rare, cook for an additional two minutes on the other side.
  • Cooking times should be adjusted according to the desired level of doneness and thickness of the steak.
  • Any combination of fresh woody herbs, such as thyme or rosemary, can be used.
  • Add a couple tablespoons of unsalted butter and flavorings of your choosing after the steak has been browned on both sides.
  • To make basting the steak simpler, turn the skillet slightly towards you to pool the butter on one side. Once the butter has melted, baste the steak for about a minute with the butter and seasonings.
  • This technique is used to keep the butter from burning at the end of the cooking process. The milk solids in the butter will burn if applied too early in the searing process, resulting in a bitter-tasting steak.
  • Basting is a technique for adding taste to meats and poultry that is often employed in restaurants and steakhouses. Remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board to rest. While resting, loosely tent the steak with foil to keep it warm.
  • Allow your steak to rest for around half of the cooking time. Serve the steak cut against the grain with your favorite sides.

The bottom line…
