When you order macaroni and cheese at a restaurant…

…it is frequently dry, pasty, and flavorless. Chick-fil-A mac and cheese…

…a fast-food chain, set the bar high by creating a unique blend of cheeses…

…and a creamy cheese sauce that you will love from the first bite.

This is one of the best mac and cheese recipes you’ll ever try,…

…according to your taste buds.

Chick-fil-a mac and cheese
Mac and Cheese in a bowl

I really love chick-fil-a mac and cheese…

but now I am moving to a place where I can buy it.

I was really sad because I miss it…

Good thing I found a recipe on the internet...

..it is not actually felt 100% the same, but it is not bad!

I will eat this until I can finally eat the real chick-fil-a mac and cheese...

Here we go!

Make Chick-fil-A Mac and Cheese At Home!

This mac and cheese is made up mostly of refined grains and a blend of cheeses which leads to it being high in both saturated fat and sodium while low in fiber

Chick-fil-A Mac and Cheese

On Sundays, why do we all crave chicken sandwiches and waffle fries?

I’m not sure. In a long time, they added one of the first permanent side additions…

Before being shared across the country, this recipe was tested…

…in a number of cities at various Chick-fil-A locations.

What is the only disadvantage?

When you make Chick-fil-A mac and cheese at home…

…you won’t be stuck with a small bowl of the new side dish.

You can make this homemade mac with a little effort..

…and feed the whole family cheesy pasta.

The Analysis Of This Chick-fil-a Mac and Cheese Recipe

Because the flavor is so good, I don’t think it’s made with a dry mix or powder…

Because of the mouthfeel, I believe their special cheddar blend…

…is American cheese, but the flavor is not straight-up American cheese..

…it is more sophisticated.

It also helps to explain the indistinct cheeses they mention…

…in their original recipe, in my opinion. Romano and Parmesan cheeses…

…can cut through American cheese to give you the best cheeses

…flavor and texture. My version was topped with Colby Jack cheese…

The Monterey Jack melts beautifully and darkens slightly…

If you look closely, you’ll notice that the browning…

….is also present in the restaurant version.

Types Of Yummy Cheeses

There’s no need to dig deep to discover that chick-fil-a mac and cheese…

…uses multiple kinds of cheese in its mac and cheese. Their menu promises a..

…”special blend of cheeses including Parmesan, cheddar, and Romano.”

However, we did not know two other types of cheese are involved…

…American and BellaVitano, a buttery, nutty cheese from Wisconsin.

You might be tempted to reduce the number of cheeses to one or two..

…but using all five kinds of cheese will give your cheese sauce..

…a ton of extra flavor and texture. According to Kitchen Conundrums…

…combining cheeses is a great way to get the gooey texture…

…of American cheese while also achieving a rich…

…complex flavor in a cheese sauce. The sauce would be grainy..

…and taste too sharp if you only used crumbly aged cheeses like cheddar..

…Romano, and Parmesan. As a result of this, we will remove…

..the pot from the heat and begin melting the cheese into the sauce.

You want to keep the milk from cooling too much..

but not so quickly that the cheese doesn’t have time to melt…

A rushed process can result in a broken, oily sauce..

…so only add the cheese one handful at a time.

The American cheese is the softest and will melt the fastest…

Stir constantly until cheese is melted, adding a few pieces at a time…

Repeat the process by adding another handful of cheese…

…until it’s all incorporated. After all the cheese is in…

…season the cheese sauce with salt, paprika, turmeric, and annatto.

The cheese sauce is now ready to use, or you can store…

…it in the refrigerator for later use. As the cheese sauce cools and reheats…

…the flour and egg yolk will prevent it from breaking.

In case you still wonder why…

Why Should You Use American Cheese In Macaroni And Cheese?

American cheese has a bad rep, which it shouldn’t have…

A good American cheese has a pleasant flavor…

…and one of the best melting profiles of any cheese.

Heavy cream and American cheese are used to make this sauce…

You can find American cheese in the Deli section of your supermarket…

…simply ask them to cut you a large chunk or slice it for you.

It doesn’t matter if it’s chunky or sliced; you’re going to melt it!

American cheese melts beautifully, does not become stringy…

..and does not separate oils. A good base for mac and cheese is American cheese…

…but you can always add more cheese for more flavor.

Extra flavors of Parmesan and Romano cheeses have been added…

…to this to really bring out the flavor.

When you combine different types of cheeses, you’ll get a mac and cheese…

…side that tastes exactly like Chick-fil-a mac and cheese.

Do You Need To Add Spices?

In our Chick-fil-A mac and cheese copycat recipe…

…we only add a few spices, mostly to add color.

Only an eighth of a teaspoon of paprika and a pinch of turmeric…

…and annatto are used in the recipe, barely enough to alter its taste.

Combining all three spices together gives your mac and cheese..

…a lovely orange hue that makes it look like the real thing…

..but you don’t need to make a special trip to the store…

…if you already have them on hand. You can add pepper to this recipe..

..if you’re used to adding ground black pepper or white pepper…

…to your mac and cheese. Pepper doesn’t appear on Chick-fil-A’s ingredients list…

…so we left it off, but it would add a nice peppery touch to the dish.

If you wish, you can also make this recipe your own…

…by adding other spices such as garlic powder, ground mustard, or cayenne pepper.
