What Is Thai Tea?

Thai Tea (also known as Thai Iced Tea) is a famous iced drink…

from Thailand that can be found in Thai restaurants around the United States. The tea’s deep amber color and milk-tinted top layer make this beverage stand out on your table, and the mix of strongly-brewed tea, cream, and sugar makes it a wonderful accompaniment to hot weather and spicy cuisine.

Thai tea is prepared with strong-brewed Ceylon black tea and spices including star anise, vanilla bean, crushed tamarind seed, orange flower, and cardamom. Its rich golden color, creamy drinkability, and vivid overtones distinguish it as a culinary treasure. After that, the brew is sweetened with sugar and sweetened condensed milk and served over ice. Glasses of Thai Tea are typically topped with extra dairy, such as evaporated milk, whole milk, half and half, or coconut milk, for taste, consistency, and aesthetic appeal. This beverage is popular in Southeast Asia and (hopefully!) gaining popularity in the United States. If you like Chai tea, you’ll probably appreciate Thai tea as well.

Ingredient

The drink is produced with either highly brewed Ceylon tea or a locally cultivated landrace (traditional or semi-wild) Assam tea known as Bai Miang.(ใบเมี่ยง). Other components may include orange blossom water, star anise, crushed tamarind seed, and occasionally other spices. The tea is cooled and sweetened with sugar and condensed milk. Before serving, evaporated milk, coconut milk, or whole milk is poured over the tea and ice to provide flavor and a creamy look. Condensed milk and sugar can be added to the tea before it’s poured over ice and topped with evaporated milk.

It is served in a tall glass at Thai restaurants, but when sold from street and market stalls in Thailand, it is poured over crushed ice in a plastic bag or tall plastic cups. Some sellers may also make it into a frappé. Thai tea may be made into bubble tea by adding tapioca pearls.

Thai Tea Benefits

It’s no surprise that humans have been drinking tea for millennia; tea offers several health advantages. Thai tea, in particular, is beneficial to both the body and the mind.

Increased Energy and Focus

Black tea, like coffee and some sodas, includes caffeine, making it an excellent choice for work and study sessions. Thai tea’s caffeine and antioxidants help improve your metabolism, which can help you burn calories faster when you visit the gym. Just remember to drink plenty of water!

Healthy Arteries

Drinking black tea dilates your arteries, allowing them to more effectively circulate blood throughout your body. This can reduce the chances of having a heart attack or having a stroke.

Decreased Cancer Risk

According to several research, drinking tea lowers the risk of numerous malignancies. This is due to the presence of antioxidants in black tea, which protect your cells from the harmful effects of free radicals.

Alleviated Stress

Tea relaxes both the body and the psyche. Snuggle up under your favorite blanket, put on your coziest socks, and sip some Thai tea hot or iced for immediate happiness. Do you have a desire for even greater goodness? Indulge in these nutritious drinks to get a nutritional boost.

Does Thai Tea Have Caffeine?

Yes, Thai tea includes around 20-60 mg of caffeine due to the use of black tea in its preparation. The overall quantity of caffeine, on the other hand, fluctuates significantly due to diluting variables such as water, milk, and ice.

How is Thai Tea Different From Plain Black Tea?

Thai Tea, as opposed to normal black tea, is flavored with star anise and cloves and sweetened with sugar or sweetened condensed milk. Thai tea can be produced in two different ways:

The colors and spices were blended in with the black tea in a pre-made tea mix. I used Pantai tea blend, but basic, plain, strong black tea has also been recommended. Both loose leaf tea (strained after steeping) and tea bags work.
