Here is the history of the brand…

Carl Sontheimer, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology…

…alumnus who was inspired by his love of French cuisine, founded Cuisinart in 1971.

The brand and its principal product, the food processor

…were born as a result of this. It first launched its brand in January 1973…

…at a trade fair in Chicago. Cuisinart’s success was modest at first…

…until a review in Gourmet magazine boosted sales.

The sales soared in the mid-1970s as a result…

…of the company’s affiliation with celebrity chefs like James Beard…

…a close friend of Carl Sontheimer.

When the brand engaged Marc Harrison to make Cuisinart’s goods…

…accessible to everyone, including people with restricted movement or vision…

…it became an important product in universal design.

The brand was in financial turmoil and experiencing declining sales…

…by the mid-to-late 1980s. In 1987, a consortium of investors…

…paid $42 million for Sontheimer’s share of the company.

The company declared bankruptcy in August 1989…

Conair ended up buying the company for $27 million as a result of this…

It’s different than a traditional air fryer because of this reason–it has a lot more functions than just air frying. I have very limited counter space so I knew I didn’t want the traditional air fryer because I don’t need one more appliance!
