What Is Churro?

If you don’t in this article will tell you how to do it. A Churro is an elongated, sweet pastry made from fried dough. It’s usually filled with cinnamon sugar or chocolate and dipped in powdered sugar for dipping. Although it has been around since the early 1900s, its popularity increased dramatically after becoming popular at Disneyland. Today, you can find them all over America as well as many other countries throughout Europe.
History Of The Churro
The first churros were created by Don Francisco Hernández Pacheco de Villamil. He was born on November 28th, 1882, near Madrid Spain. In 1896 he began working at El Rey Sol restaurant where his father worked before him.
At this time they served bread rolls that had been deep-fried until golden brown. One day while serving these rolls, one customer asked if anyone knew how to make the same kind of roll but without frying them. After thinking about the request, Don Francisco decided to try making them using only flour instead of oil. This new recipe became known as “churros” which means little rods. These were very successful and soon people started asking for more. Soon enough, churros were being sold outside the restaurant.
A few years later, Don Francisco opened up another bakery called Los Panaderos located in Plaza del Carmen. There he continued creating different types of pastries including churros. Eventually, he left the business when he married Josefina Arroyo. She owned her own shop selling sweets named La Reja Azul. Her husband then took over running the bakery. They eventually moved their shops to Calle Alcaloz 1 in Madrid so that they could sell larger quantities of goods. During World War II, the family ran out of money and stopped producing any food products.

A kitchen utensils that makes churros! You just fill up this machine with water, add some oil, then put your ingredients into the mixing bowl inside of it and turn on the switch. How To Use a Churro Maker
- Fill the bottom pan with water until it reaches about 1/2 inch below the top edge of the outer casing.
- Place the inner case on top of the outer casing. You may want to place some weights under the casings to keep them secure during cooking.
- Put the lid on the cooker and turn on the heat to medium-high. Let cook for 30 minutes. When finished heating, remove the cover and carefully lift out the inner casing. Be careful not to burn yourself!
- Using tongs, take one piece of dough at time and gently roll between two hands to form a ball. Repeat this process until you have formed 10 balls. Keep these covered with plastic wrap until ready to fry.
- Pour oil into each side of the frying basket until there are 2 inches of oil in both sides. Heat the oil on high heat until it gets very hot but does not smoke. Once heated, lower the temperature slightly. Drop half of the balls into the oil and let sit for 3 – 4 seconds. Then drop another batch into the oil. Continue doing this until all of the dough balls have been dropped into the oil. They should float freely within the oil without sticking together. Adjust the heat accordingly to prevent burning.
- Cook 5 to 6 min per side, depending on thickness desired. Remove and drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately or cool completely in refrigerator overnight before serving. Enjoy you churros!
