If You Have Some Time

Pour the de-fatting liquid into a bowl, let it to cool somewhat, and then place it in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. The fat will climb to the top of the bowl and harden into a skin. Simply scrape the skin off and you’re ready to go.

After that, cut a bottom corner of the freezer bag and drain the defatted liquid into a separate container. This approach will not work for stews or other recipes with chunky veggies or meats.

Place the fat in a disposable container and allow it to solidify before disposing of it. Fat should not be poured down the drain since it will block it.
