So, how did the Presto Stainless Steel Electric Wok fare against the competition? Here’s what I discovered.


Presto Stainless Steel Electric Wok Design: Flat Base with Side Loop Handles

The wok is 14 inches in diameter and has two looped handles as well as a deep flat base with sloping sides. The clear tempered glass cover allows you to see the contents while cooking. When I needed to keep food warm, I used it to cover hot pots and keep it from drying out.

The wide-angled edge of the supplied spatula was ideal for stir-frying and sautéing. The wok’s base is attached to a stand, allowing for plenty of space between the cooking surface and the wok. So, for a family-style soupy noodle dish, it was relatively safe to use on the tabletop. The wok automatically cut off when it reached the set temperature and then restarted when the temperature dropped.

The stand’s disadvantage is that it is difficult to store in kitchen cabinets. The 1500-watt heating plug is tucked neatly under one of the looped handles, and the power wire is only 30 inches long. I needed an extension cord to cook in the wok on the table, despite the fact that it was a good length for use in the kitchen.

The wok heated up fast after being cleansed and set up, releasing some stink and smoke. When using the wok for the first time, the instruction handbook states that it is usual for the manufacturing residue to burn off. Before finishing the test, I let the wok heat for a few minutes to finish the burning process and then rinsed it again.

The wok’s base heated up quickly, but the sides needed a few minutes to warm up. The wok efficiently maintained the temperature once it was hot. When the regulator reaches the desired temperature, it automatically shuts off and then restarts when the temperature drops. To begin, I created a short stir-fry dish to see how well it could sear and heat.

The food at the bottom browned nicely and sizzled rapidly. The edges of the wok did not brown as well as the base, but they were still acceptable. Overall, I was able to make a satisfactory chicken and veggie stir-fry. The wok shines when it comes to simmering and stew-like dishes. I made a Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and the heat control was excellent throughout.

It did not disappoint as a “one wok to do it all” when creating vegetable korma, vegetable fried rice, or a stir-fry Japchae with “Dang-myeon” ( sweet potato noodles ). The one caveat was that cooking on the wok’s highest heat setting caused the food to stick at the bottom and made temperature control less effective. The frying pan

Despite the fact that the manufacturer recommends against deep frying with the wok, I cooked French fries and vegetable fritters to see whether it could retain the oil at a steady 360 degrees, which it did. There were no stale fries available. Everything was crisply fried to perfection.

The wok can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand after removing the heat control regulator. I only had to remember to unplug the regulator before continuing as usual. I just added water and set the wok to 250 degrees when there was extra stuck-on food in the pan. I scraped the bottom of the pan with the spatula while the water boiled, and the debris readily came off. There’s no need to scrub.
