So if you wondering, is higher cfm better for range hood? You will know the answer for it. In terms of cubic feet per minute (CFM), range hoods are rated by manufacturers (CFM). This means that a range hood with a higher CFM rating will be more effective in dissipating smoke and odors. In this blog, we also have best under cabinet range hoods on amazon that you might want too see.

Range Hood

A range hood is one of the most essential components to consider when building or remodeling a kitchen. It enhances indoor air quality by venting out unpleasant odors and unhealthy smoke that occurs when cooking or serving food. Even if you do not like cooking more often, a kitchen range hood can increase your property value, as it adds both aesthetics and functionality in the room. Kitchen range hoods can differ in terms of size, appearance, shape, and functionality. The choice of design should be based on what your kitchen already has, such as ceiling height, lighting, appliances, and other features.

Commercial Range hood

Commercial range hoods may also be combined with a fresh air fan that draws in exterior air, circulating it with the cooking fumes, which is then drawn out by the hood. A commercial hood comes in many different sizes, ranging from 5-8 cubic feet per minute or even larger.

These units are designed to operate efficiently, so they are usually rated according to their CFM output. Most range hoods come prewired with an electrical cord, but some models require a dedicated circuit for installation. Installing a range hood requires a permit from your local building department. If you have any questions about the permits required for installing a range hood, contact your local building inspector.

Is Higher Cfm Better For Range Hood

If you want to cook a wide variety of dishes while keeping the air in your kitchen fresh and clean, a hood with more CFM is the best option. However, it may not be the ideal solution for you if you:

  • If your kitchen is tiny, the amount of air being drawn into your range hood will be more than the amount of air entering your kitchen.
  • Small-diameter vents aren’t capable of supporting greater CFMs in hoods
  • Regularly running your air conditioner and heater will result in the air leaving your home and hence, your money leaving your bank account.

The lack of flexible speeds in your range hood means that while you’re cooking less intensely, you’ll have no choice but to run it at a greater cubic feet per minute than you would require.

As a result, you will be removing more air from your kitchen than necessary, which could result in you losing the heat you desire in your home. Using the hood to its maximum speed will cost you money, which you will forfeit.

A higher CFM won’t necessarily help you get rid of all the fumes if your hood isn’t correctly sized. The ability of a high-powered blower to extract air is impacted by your ductwork, as previously noted. If your ductwork is too narrow, too long, or has too many bends, your hood will not be able to do its function.

You’ll never regret spending a little extra money on a more powerful fan. Our phone lines are ringing off the hook every week from folks who regret not purchasing enough of a hood and are now searching for a replacement.

The maximum speed will not be used all the time, so plan accordingly. With at least four fan speeds, most Proline range hoods allow you to change the exhaust fan’s strength to fit the needs of any meal preparation.

Is my range hood’s airflow of 400 CFM adequate?

CFM (total BTUs of your range / 100) is best calculated using the aforementioned methods, so if you get a number of 400 or less, that’s a good starting point for your project. However, in the majority of cases, this will fall short of effectively purifying the air in your kitchen. The 400 CFM hood on your range is likely to be overwhelmed by the amount of BTUs it produces.

Many big-box stores sell range hoods rated at 400 CFM or less, but they won’t be able to compete with the quality of hoods with greater CFM ratings.

High-CFM hoods are the ones we always suggest to our clients because they can be used at lower speeds as well. However, there isn’t much you can do if you buy a 400 CFM range hood and then find you need a 900 CFM one.
